Adobe released some major updates to Premiere Pro and After Effects in the Creative Cloud 2022 Spring update as well as some groundbreaking new features in late 2021. The latest versions are 22.3.1 in Premiere Pro and 22.3 in After Effects. In this post I’ll be going over some of my favorites, and why I think these will be a game changer for video creators.
Import, Edit, & Export Modes
So one of the most noticeable changes to Premiere Pro in its latest update is the addition of Import, Edit, and Export modes. When you open Premiere Pro you’ll see three different modes to choose from in the top left corner of the application.
These can be quite confusing to grasp at first glance. So that’s why I dedicated an entire YouTube video on how to navigate and use the Import and Export modes. You can check it out below if you’d like to learn more.
I think these new editing modes will take some time to get use to, but they do have some potential. I think adding more features to the way you can import and edit new bins in the Import mode would be helpful and as for the Export mode, I’d like to see more improvements to the social sharing section.
There seems to be some quirks here and there and Adobe says that updates to these new modes are on the horizon so be on the look out for improvements in the near feature.
Remix
This feature has been around for a while in the beta version of Premiere Pro, but it is now in the full version. I think this is a very powerful tool for video editors. Video editors by nature aren’t always interested in music and using a tool like Remix can save an editor hours of time trying to nail down an edit.
Remix allows video editors to adjust any piece of music to a specific length of time. Working on a 30 second ad? No problem. Easily adjust the music track to your desired length. It works similar to how the rate stretch tool works for video. In the video below I go into detail on how exactly this new tool works. Feel free to watch it to learn more.
Composition Profiler
Now let’s talk about one of my favorite new After Effects features. It’s called Composition Profiler. This feature is very helpful for complex compositions that have several layers and several effects per layer.
By using the Composition Profiler, you can easily access how much time each layer and each effect take to render. It displays a time and color code that indicates if a layer/effect takes a long or short time to render.

Frame.io
Probably one of the longest awaited features is the integration of Frame.io. In August of 2021, Adobe announced that they were going to purchase Frame.io for $1.28B. And just recently in the latest release of Premiere Pro & After Effects, Adobe has fully rolled out the integration in both of these programs.
Frame.io is a collaboration and cloud storage solution for creative teams. You can use it to upload files and share with other team members to work in near real-time. It’s great for collaboration and to get approvals on edits and rough cuts.
