If you are a visual effects artist or a motion designer using Adobe After Effects, you’ll see that there are so many effects to use inside the software. So in this post I wanted to cover 3 unique effects to consider when creating your next animation or VFX project.
1. Fractal Noise
This is one of the most versatile effects inside Adobe After Effects. You can do so much with Fractal Noise. You can create fire, clouds, and a lot of different textures & elements using this effect. If you’d like to see a little bit more on how to use this effect, I’ve made a video below to show you a one of the several ways to use this effect by creating smoke.
As you can see there is a lot you can do using this effect. By just adjusting the simple controls you can create completely different effects and outcomes. Now let’s look at another one that is great for motion design.
2. Stroke
If you’ve ever had to do a handwriting effect, you might have come across this effect. If not, then this will help you out a lot! The Stroke effect is great for animating a mask inside After Effects to reveal text. To see how this works, I’ve created a video below that goes over how to use this effect. Feel free to watch it below.
This effect is very handy for revealing text as if it was handwritten. Now let’s look at another effect that is very niche and great for VFX.
3. CC Mr. Mercury
As mentioned this is a very niche effect. What I’ve found this effect to be most useful for is liquid or blob type of animations. One example is using this effect as a blood drop animation. I’ve created a video to show how I used this effect in that way. You can watch the After Effects tutorial below to see how it works.
Feel free to mess around with this effect. There are a lot of different things you can create by adjusting the settings.
